Property Crimes

Property offences are highly fact-specific, but each engages the criminal standard of proof. Jayse has successfully argued for reasonable sentences for his clients, convinced the Crown to enter stays of proceedings, and secured his clients acquittals on numerous property crimes including frauds, thefts, break and enters, mischiefs, and robberies.

Crimes of Violence

Whether you’re facing a charge of robbery, assault causing bodily harm, assault with weapons ranging from firearms to sandwiches, threats, 810 peace bond applications or harassment, Jayse has dealt with all of these types of charges. Whether you’re facing a domestic assault allegation from your partner or you were allegedly involved in a barfight, Jayse will devote his time to addressing the concerns you have, endeavouring to resolve the matter as soon as possible, and if necessary, run a trial as your defence counsel.

Other Offences

Other Canadian statutes may result in quasi-criminal charges. Having defended clients charged with Wildlife Act, Fisheries, Environmental Management Act offences and others, Jayse will help you clear the record.

Charter Applications

With his grounding in defending individuals accused of drug offences, Jayse has learned how to approach the rights protected by our Charter and how to make them work for you. From before his time at UBC Law, Jayse was interested and engaged with the balancing act struck between government and individuals’ rights. In his many years of practice he has brought many novel Charter arguments before the courts, attacking sentencing regimes, police actions, rules of evidence, court delays, Crown disclosure issues, and more.
